THE STORY - Antigone is a 5th Century BC Athenian tragedy that explores the conflict between personal morality and state law. Antigone’s brothers have been killed in the civil war and the new ruler, Creon, does not want the body of the rebel brother, Polynices, to be properly buried. Antigone defies Creon’s decree despite the consequences she may face in order to honor her deceased brother.
