"Something wicked this way comes . . .”

Three mysterious witches lay a glorious prophecy at the feet of Macbeth, and it calls to him. Will he do what it takes to become king? Does he want it bad enough to kill for it? Is the chance to control his nation worth the chance of losing his soul?

So begins Shakespeare's most infamous dive into the depths of human ambition, wickedness, and obsession with power. The play roars with the drive and power of a runaway train, headed by some of his most legendary characters: the powerhouse Lady Macbeth, the courageous MacDuff, the supernatural witches, the drunken Porter, and the tortured but ambitious Macbeth.

Shakespeare wrote this infamous play a decade after the death of his own son, Hamnet, and it has since blossomed into one of the world’s most told stories, likely due in part to human fascination with the wickedness within ourselves. But beneath this seemingly heartless plan lies a tragic truth; Macbeth and his wife once had a child and now they have none. With this tragic loss, and no one to carry on the name Macbeth, they entertain a most diabolical plan in the name of recognition and immortality: murder.

Macbeth is not simply about obsessive ambition; it is about loss, insufficiency and filling an emptiness which grows the more it is fed. Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy elevates young love against the backdrop of two feuding families. Enjoy the work of Hedgerow’s Teen Shakespeare Camp students on stage.
