Every Brilliant Thing is a powerful, heartwarming, and surprisingly funny play about the lengths we go to for those we love—and the small, beautiful moments that make life worth living.
The story begins when a 7-year-old’s mother attempts suicide, prompting the child to start a list of everything brilliant in the world. As the years unfold—through adolescence, love, loss, marriage, and grief—the list grows, abandoned and revived, eventually reaching one million entries. Blending comedy, improvisation, and intimate audience interaction, this immersive experience invites us to walk alongside one individual navigating the shadow of a parent’s mental illness while learning to face their own.
Moving and life-affirming, Every Brilliant Thing reminds us that even in our darkest moments, hope can be found in life’s smallest miracles.
