Join us for a staged reading of Profiles in Female Courage written by Christopher Bailey and directed by Carisa Meisner Smit. Part of the FIRST DRAFT Staged Reading Series presented by the Edmonds Driftwood Players and Driftwood After Dark.

Synopsis: Though largely forgotten, Lisa Howard and Dorothy Kilgallen were groundbreaking American journalists, while abstract painter, Mary Pinchot Meyer, was influential in the peace movement of the 1960’s, including by urging her lover, President Kennedy, to fight nuclear proliferation. Howard was the first woman to host a television news show, while working behind the scenes with Kennedy and Castro to broker peace with Cuba. And though ostensibly a gossip columnist, Kilgallen was considered by many men in her field the best investigative journalist on the planet, the only reporter to interview Jack Ruby. In a male-dominated world, the obstacles this trio faced were exceeded only by the force of their determination. Only their untimely deaths—all within two years of the Kennedy assassination—could stop them.

Expected Run Time: 130 minutes, with no intermission. A Playwright Feedback session will be held after the reading and is encouraged but optional to stay and participate.
