Join us for a staged reading of Yusef Christ written by Henry S Brown, Jr. and directed by Kirsten McCory. Part of the FIRST DRAFT Staged Reading Series presented by the Edmonds Driftwood Players and Driftwood After Dark.
Synopsis: Ron Gibson, a popular host for right-wing network Century News, is assigned to rhetorically take down the popular Muslim-American writer Yusef Abdulnajjar, whose book on religious harmony is threatening their bottom line. Meanwhile, a feud between Ron and hotheaded upstart George Beckham erupts into Ron being sidelined over a plan to attack Yusef figuratively and literally by inciting a militia to kidnap and kill him.
Ron discovers this plot and comes to an epiphany: choose between company loyalty and genuine morality. Ron attempts to take action on his fateful decision. In tandem with Yusef’s followers and a jaded FBI agent, Ron joins the rescue attempt. Failing to rescue Yusef, Ron has a near-death experience that will change not only Ron himself but the world.
Expected Run Time: 70 minutes, with no intermission. A Playwright Feedback session will be held after the reading and is encouraged but optional to stay and participate.
