The Lifespan of a Fact
By Jeremy Kareken & David Murrell
and Gordon Farrell
When truth becomes an artform
Jim Fingal is a fresh-out-of-Harvard fact checker for a prominent but sinking New York magazine. John D’Agata is a talented writer with a transcendent essay about the suicide of a teenage boy—an essay that could save the magazine from collapse. When Jim is assigned to fact check D’Agata’s essay, the two come head to head in a comedic yet gripping battle over facts versus truth.
***SPECIAL PRE-TALK ON 4/24: Intent Versus Content of Words
Join us for a pre-show talk prior to 4/24’s performance about why it is important to listen for the intent of someone’s words, rather than be seduced by the content of that communication. The Lifespan of a Fact explores the spectrum of truth that can be conveyed through words; however, Dr. Dug Y. Lee Lebel will discuss how we can discover a deeper truth when we listen with our brains instead of our ears.
Dr. Dug is a Davidson-based clinical psychologist who is board-certified in couple and family psychology. This presentation is in collaboration with The Public Education Committee of the North Carolina Psychological Foundation, whose mission is to “give psychology away” through public education.
All ticket holders for the 4/24 performance are welcome to attend this event beginning at 6:30pm. There will be a short break before the performance begins at 7:30pm.
