Giselle – A Romantic Ballet
A timeless story of love, betrayal, and redemption, Giselle is one of classical ballet’s most haunting and beautiful masterpieces.
Set in a sunlit village during the joyful Grape Harvest Festival, the ballet follows Giselle, a gentle peasant girl with a fragile heart and a deep love of dancing. She falls for a charming young villager known as Loys, unaware that he is truly Count Albrecht, a nobleman already promised to another. When his deception is revealed and his royal betrothal comes to light, Giselle’s heartbreak overwhelms her. In a moment of tragic despair, she loses herself in madness and collapses, her weakened heart unable to endure the pain.
In the moonlit forest of the second act, the Wilis — ghostly spirits of maidens betrayed before their wedding days — rise to dance under the command of their relentless queen, Myrtha. Any man who crosses their path is doomed to dance until death. When Albrecht comes to mourn at Giselle’s grave, he too faces their vengeance. But Giselle’s love transcends even death itself. Through forgiveness and sacrifice, she protects him until dawn breaks, proving that love’s power is stronger than betrayal, and stronger even than the grave.
