Rhythm and Romance
Prepare yourself for an evening of dynamic musical delights starting with the
vibrant Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez. Inspired by traditional Cuban dance
rhythms, elegant one moment and smoldering the next, you’ll find it quite
impossible to sit still.
Next we pivot into the luminous clarity of Franz Schubert’s Symphony No.5. Full of
youthful exuberance, it is a masterpiece of melodic craftsmanship and emotional
depth.
Following intermission, prepare to be dazzled by Edouard Lalo’s captivating
Symphonie Espagnole. A sensational piece featuring the extraordinary talent of
acclaimed violinist and hometown hero Otis Harriel, this work is less a
“symphony” than a full-on showcase of virtuosity. This is a musical journey
brimming with passion and energy you won’t want to miss.

In conjunction with this concert, we present our annual Schools to Symphony
program. Committed to high quality music education in Humboldt County, the
Eureka Symphony and the Humboldt Office of Education bring approximately
1300 students to share the excitement of live symphonic music in the Arkley
Center.
