HARVEY Elwood P. Dowd has an imaginary friend, Harvey, a very tall rabbit. Veta, Elwood’s sister cannot tolerate her adult brother’s eccentricity and decides to have him committed to a sanitarium. Problems arise when Veta herself is mistakenly assumed to be the one on the verge of lunacy when she explains to the doctors that after years of living with Elwood’s hallucination, she too is starting to see Harvey. Eventually the truth comes out and the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. In the end, it seems that Elwood’s delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors. Only then does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn’t so bad after all.
