This is a work of fiction inspired by the true events surrounding Orville and Wilbur Wright’s development of the first airplane. We peek in on the Wright Brothers in their Ohio bicycle shop and on the wind-swept sands of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. There, the Brothers stood on the beach and observed flight of birds, imitating their movements for hours on end, from which they drew inspiration for their invention. The play is at times humorous while also raising questions concerning life and death. Mostly, however, it is a highly personal story of a boy whose destiny is tied to the historic birth of flight. He not only witnesses history, but he must confront its aftermath as a result of World War I.
