Live Arts Maryland opens the season with music that explores peace, compassion, and our shared humanity. Karl Jenkins composed The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace as a response to the tragedies of war, creating one of the most compelling choral works of the past quarter century. Blending the traditional Mass with poetry and texts from many cultures and faiths, the work traces a journey from conflict to hope and reconciliation.
The program is complemented by Frank Ticheli's Earthsong, a heartfelt call to care for one another and the world we share; Edward Elgar's poignant Sospiri, a quiet meditation on loss and remembrance; and Kim André Arnesen's Do Not Neglect to Show Hospitality, a moving reminder of the importance of kindness and compassion. Together, these works invite us to reflect on the values that unite us and the enduring hope for peace.
