The Burrell Observatory is proud to host an open house program as part of the Reinhold and Margaret Kader Memorial Lecture Series on Saturday October 24, 2026, at 7:30 PM. Dr.Dan Wilkins of The Ohio State University Astronomy Department will present a lecture entitled: “Supermassive Black Holes: Monsters Lurking in the Hearts of Galaxies”. A supermassive black hole (SMBH) is the largest type of black hole in existence, possessing a mass up to tens of billions of times the mass of our Sun. These invisible giants typically anchor the centers of massive galaxies, fundamentally dictating the structure, movement, and evolution of the surrounding cosmos.
