Ray Vega’s Afro-Caribbean Ensemble

Festival Finale

Sunday, October 11 at 7:30 PM on the historic Rothrock Main Stage

Salsa, bebop, funk, and Afro-Caribbean rhythm close the festival out loud.

Ray Vega grew up in the South Bronx and played his way straight through the golden era of Latin jazz. Tito Puente. Ray Barretto. Mongo Santamaria. Celia Cruz. Paquito D’Rivera. Arturo Sandoval. Eddie Palmieri. He served as lead trumpeter in the Tito Puente Latin Jazz Orchestra and played on the Grammy-winning Mambo Birdland.

Now based in Vermont, where he is a senior lecturer at UVM, Vega brings that lineage to an ensemble built for fiery improvisation and grooves you feel before you hear. His career runs from the Blue Note and Birdland to major jazz festivals around the world, and it arrives here with a distinctly contemporary Nuyorican bite.

Last show of the festival. Come ready.
