Miles Donahue Quartet
Featuring Vanessa Dunleavy
Saturday, October 10 at 2:00 PM in the Anderson Studio
Trumpet, saxophone, keys, and voice. Miles Donahue plays the first three, and guest vocalist Vanessa Dunleavy rounds out the group. The afternoon goes wherever the band takes it.
Donahue has spent decades crossing genres without losing his own voice. Lyrical improvisation, a warm sound, and the kind of versatility that only comes from actually playing everything. He has recorded with Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, and Mike Stern, pulling from bebop, post-bop, contemporary jazz, and the Great American Songbook.
The quartet’s set mixes standards, bebop classics, originals, and contemporary favorites. What you will notice most is the listening. Four musicians answering each other in real time, in a room small enough that you catch every bit of it.
