Create a unique bouquet that won’t wilt over time. We’ll take a closer look at flowers and plants and go through the process of painting from drawing to final details. Painters are welcome to use acrylic or oil paints for this class.

Through use of their preferred media, students will paint colorful still-life setups inspired by art teacher Arthur Stern. They will hone their ability to see, mix and paint color.

This class is intermediate and above, and assumes that you are familiar with the media of your choosing.

We will handbuild small holiday decorations and ornaments, using pattern rollers, underglazes, and low relief decoration. Come with pictures of inspiration or be inspired in class. No experience necessary. Your first bag of clay, studio glazes, tools, and studio time outside of class are included in class fee.

Let's make a coffee pour over set! Learn to throw on the pottery wheel a coffee cup and pour over and make them match. We might even brew some coffee too! Work from still life set-ups and photographs. Focus on the basics, build skills, and learn how to see as an artist, while working from your own photos, a personal still life, and more. Gain confidence while experimenting with pencils, charcoal, and pen and ink. This class is geared toward students learning about drawing materials and the basics of drawing.

Learn how to paint using oils. Start painting, mix colors, apply the paint, and learn about glazing and palette knife work. This is a studio class geared toward new students and continuing oil painting students. New students are shown how to use materials and begin an oil painting. Each week we continue to learn about glazing, palette knife work, etc. Returning and advanced students work on their individual paintings with instructor’s help if needed.

Learn to paint people. In week one we will study portrait painting. In week two we will cover clothed figure painting. And for our final lesson we will paint a figure(s) in environment. Each week addresses new challenges for painting people and the techniques to excel. We will use the direct painting approach and make a painting a day. Students paint from photographs. This course will challenge painters of all levels. Only a positive attitude is required.

In this class we’ll explore using unusual tools like paint rollers, combs, and squeegees, as well as trying different materials that we can add to oil paint to create textured and unusual paintings.
