This is every art form about building! Invent with Clay, kinetic art, sculpture, recycled materials. We will also experiment with slime, goop, and edible dyes. Different project every day.

Beginning Quilting: Learning the basics on "Texas Wildflower" quilt sampler Thursdays, June 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2020 10 10

With a series of four sessions, the instructors will lead the students through basic skills for tools, cutting and piecing with squares and triangles and adding borders, sashing and basic quilting. Highlights will include possible machine applique techniques and a final session on how to bind a finished piece and
add a hanging sleeve. The $25.00 fee covers the following supplies: ½ yard of focus fabric and 4 coordinating fat quarters plus batting. (Note the backing fabric will not be supplied but will be purchased by the student once the top is complete. Selection of this piece is left to the student’s choice of color and available options.)

Students will need to provide their own fabric and supplies:

  • Portable sewing machine in good working order for personal sewing on which the student is proficient

  • Scissors suitable for cutting fabric and thread and a rotary cutter and cutting mat

  • Extra needles for the machine used by the student

  • Med. Grey or Tan thread (suggest that student chooses a light neutral and brings several bobbins loaded with thread for convenience)

  • Straight pins

Behind the Scenes 8:30AM - 12:30PM 15 14

Write it. Design it and act in it. Class will collaborate writing short skits in the Saturday Night Live style. We will design and build the props and costumes. The final day we will iPad video each skit and put them on the summer camp Facebook page for everyone to enjoy.

Ceramics II 1:30 - 3:30PM 10 10

Learn the skills necessary to throw cylinders, cups, bowls and more in this exciting introduction to throwing fundamentals through the process of throwing, shaping and trimming pots on the wheel. Basic surface decoration and glazing techniques will be demonstrated. This class is designed for students with little or no experience on the potter’s wheel. Participants must take Ceramics I before enrolling in this course.

Crocheting for Beginners 8:30 -10AM

Come learn basics of crochet to include different yarns, crochet hooks different stitches such as chain and slip stitch. Participants will learn how to comfortably hold a crochet hook and the yarn. Participants will need to provide size H hook, medium weight cotton yarn. Recommended material includes Learn to Crochet, NOW! Available at leisurearts.com

Experiments and Art 10AM - 12PM

Join us making several different materials to create art. Paint ceramics, use recyclable materials to make friendship bracelets and design collages. See how science and art can be combined to create interesting sow pieces.

Exploration: Oil Painting at the CAC

CAC offers an open-studio approach to oil painting.  Helen Alexander will be in the studio each session to provide support for painters.   The assistance can include laying out a composition for painting from a still life or a photograph, blocking in a painting, determining the color pallet, and tips for techniques with oils.  The emphasis for the sessions is to relax and create.

Each session, Helen will be working on a painting that will highlight a subject or technique.   However, each painter is welcome to work on any painting of their choice.   

June 6 - Highlight on blocking in technique
June 13 – Highlight on shadows and highlights
June 20 – Highlight on pallet knife painting
June 27 – Highlight on still life painting
July 11 - Highlight on landscape painting
July 18 – Highlight on seascape painting

Materials suggested:

  • Paints: yellow, ochre, burnt sienna, red, alizarin, ultramarine blue, thalo blue, white (primary colors of yellow, red, blue and white are all that are absolutely needed, all other colors can be mixed)

  • Turpinoid for cleaning brushes

  • old phone book

  • roll of mechanic towels or paper towels

  • Brushes: variety of bristle (I like brights and filberts) and synthetic softer brushes (not watercolor brushes).  Include at least one #10 or #12 bristle

  • Painting boards & canvas pads for practice, stretched canvases

  • Portable table easel

  • Reference photos

Fashion Design Camp 8:30AM - 12:30PM

Want to design clothes? Watch your art walk down runways in New York and Milan? This summer the CAC is bringing the fashion district to you. In this class we will create a fashion line, design a T-shirt, bag and learn fashion illustration. Build a mood board. We will create a fluffy tulle skirt, have team challenges and end the class with a fashion show.

Missoula Children's Theater - The Snow Queen VARIES

Open Audition - Monday, August 3 at 10am for Grades 1st - 12th. No preparation is necessary! Let your child take the stage! Rehearsal times are from 10am-noon and 12:30pm-2:30pm the week of 8/3 – 8/7. Each member cast will receive his/her own rehearsal schedule as times vary per role. Performances held on Sat., Aug. 8 at 3pm & 5:30pm
