Additive Relief as an Introduction to Relief Printmaking 12 PM - 4 PM 10 10

Instructor: Sean Clark

Date: October 14

Time: 12 PM - 4 PM

Cost: $45

Level: Intermediate must be comfortable using cutting tools.

Introductory session covering the fundamentals of additive color relief printing, including the planning of  an image, cutting, ink mixing and printing.

Additive relief is a quick and accessible form of relief printmaking that relies on cut material acting as an elevated surface, spliced together to hold ink and make a design. It requires no carving and allows for more flexible use of color in a single run than traditional block printing via division of the matrix, or printing block.

This class will help you get familiar with printmaking as a medium, as well as translating a design into something which can be hand-reproduced and iterated. For those with some experience in single-run relief, it will serve as an opportunity to incorporate color into designs in a new way. The class will also include a brief discussion on color theory and its applications in relief printing.
