This class will introduce students to the basics of an "outside-in" approach to acting with a focus on comedy, drawing from the principles and techniques of Commedia dell'Arte and related forms of clowining. Exercises are designed to build an awareness of the body, creat an ensemble, and give students a toolkit for bulding character throught physicality. By the end of class, students will have a foundational understanding of how to make strong physical choices to convey character and story onstage.

Tempest Wisdom, professional actor/educator, will teach this fun and interactive camp. Audiences may remember Tempest from her performance in the critically acclaimed The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) at Centerstage this past season. Tempest studied Theater & Performance Studies at the University of Chicago. There, she practiced a variety of acting techniques, specializing in physical approaches to acting. Her teaching repertoire covers a broad spectrum from devising hard-hitting political theater with 10-year-olds to teaching adults to slip on banana peels.
