Learning Laban 03/15/2025 4-7 PM 20 19

Movement is a crucial skill for actors. Being on stage under all of those lights can often feel like being under a microscope, causing actors to second guess their physical choices: I’m just standing here…shouldn’t I be moving? Where should I move to? What should I do with my arms? They are just THERE. This class will serve as an introduction to Labanotation, a movement notation system. No experience required! Students will study the eight effort shapes and apply them to a text. The objective is to discover the beats of the text through the efforts, in the hope that actors may use this method to discover truths in their future roles and feel more confident in their physical choices. This class will be taught by HCT’s Education Director, Kelsey Kott. There are only 20 spots available. The workshop is free, but registration is required. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring a water bottle with you.
