This class is an extension of the introduction to the art of classical ballet, including barre, centre and stretch exercises. Some previous training recommended or by permission of instructor. Attire: Women: leotards, tights, skirts, warm-up pants. Hair should be pulled neatly off the face so it does not inhibit movement. Men: T-shirt, jazz pants, sweats or tights. Ballet shoes are required for both men and women. No class July 4.

This class is an introduction to the art of classical ballet for the novice, including the basic positions of the arms and feet, the basic exercises of the ballet barre and centre, plus exercises for strength and flexibility. This class is a great way to work out and get into shape for the dance enthusiast. Prerequisite: none. Attire: Women: leotards, tights, skirts, warm-up pants. Hair should be pulled neatly off the face so it does not inhibit movement. Men: T- shirt, jazz pants, sweats or tights. Ballet shoes are required for both men and women. No class July 4.

The Ballet Theatre of Maryland believes in providing everyone with access and opportunity to explore movement and dance. Our adaptive dance program is an inclusive class that specializes in meeting the needs of individuals with mental and/or physical disabilities. This class promotes self-expression, enhances spatial awareness, improves motor skills and coordination, fosters cooperation and collaboration all while building a strong community. Students can expect to explore creative movement and learn the fundamentals of classical ballet. At the start of the first class, parents/caretakers will have the opportunity to disclose information to the instructor about the student’s disabilities/specific needs as a form of awareness to cater best to each student. Students should wear comfortable clothing/athletic wear (i.e., pants, shorts, or skirts, and shirts easy can move in) and socks or ballet slippers. No class July 4.
