Want to learn to draw? This class is intended for beginners who want to learn the basics of drawing. Students will explore all aspects of drawing with a concentration on still life. Small class sizes allow lots of individual attention and direction. This course can be retaken for those who want to continue to sharpen their skills. No class 11/25.
Supplies: drawing paper and pencils are available for use, but students are welcome to bring their own as well.

Enrich your art in this class that uses mixed media tricks and techniques to address common problems in drawing from observation. Learn to capture reflective surfaces like glass and water, build rich textures, and describe reflected light and shadow in fabric. This class uses traditional still life subjects as well as live plants, fruits, and flowers, to teach observational drawing skills. During the course, we'll explore drawing materials and wet media including but not limited to: graphite, charcoal, watercolor, and illustration markers. This is a companion class to Drawing from Nature, but can be taken separately. This class includes one day of off-site drawing (location TBD) where we meet to draw locally. All skill levels welcome; all materials are provided in the classroom, but artists may choose to bring their own materials if they like. Email holly@rosar.io for further information.

A totally great time that may result in mild side effects such as newfound opinions about color theory, emotional attachment to paintbrushes, and a suspicious interest in berets. Inspired by artists who have already done it—or some who are still in the process—we’ll look at their interesting lives and works. Then, using their stories and examples, create new, personal “inspired-by” artwork of our own. You’ll hear a little art history, maybe a funny anecdote or two, and get into the “why” behind the work—the stuff that makes it matter. It’s less about technical perfection and more about clarity of message. In the words of Mark Rothko, “There is no such thing as a good painting about nothing.” No prior experience necessary. All are welcome, because creativity belongs to everyone and we intend to prove it (while having a lot of fun doing it). Each workshopper will leave with a finished acrylic painting.

Learn to paint with this beautifully unpredictable medium by mastering essential supplies, foundational techniques, and understanding the magic of letting the water do the work. This is an educational, technical course designed for those who want to really understand how to paint with this particular medium and grow their skills. You'll leave with: a solid foundation in watercolor fundamentals like brush handling, water management, painting planning, and how to work wet-into-wet. Ages 13+

This class will focus on teaching students the fundamentals of landscape painting, the importance and use of design, composition, perspective, and color. Focus will also be on painting in the studio from photographic reference using oil paints. Advanced students will learn to create larger finished work based on plein air studies. This class may be taken multiple times to develop various skills, meeting each student’s individual needs. All skill levels will be accommodated. Class focus will be on students looking for more information on exploring landscape painting. Classes intended for Adults, teenagers are accepted after portfolio review. Spend three transformative days studying figure and portraiture with two professional artists. Begin Friday afternoon with the classical atelier tradition — drawing from sculpture — then spend Saturday and Sunday painting and drawing live models. Through expert demonstrations, personal critiques, and hands-on practice, you'll deepen your mastery of proportion, gesture, anatomy, value, and color. This is an immersive experience for artists ready to elevate their craft.
