In this 5-week project-based jewelry class, expand your metalsmithing skills through a new technique and finish projects each week. Demonstrations and hands-on instruction will explore design approaches, soldering, forming, finishing, and color application to metal while strengthening craftsmanship and confidence at the bench. Students will leave with a collection of completed pieces and new techniques to continue exploring beyond class.

Ready to build on your foundational skills? This intermediate project-based class is designed for students comfortable with basic sawing, soldering, and fabrication techniques who want to strengthen skills through guided projects. Each project introduces new design and construction approaches while refining core bench techniques such as soldering, stone setting, texture, forming, and finishing. Students will complete a series of structured projects that develop confidence, craftsmanship, and creative problem-solving while expanding their jewelry-making toolbox.

Chasing and repousse is one of the oldest techniques in metal arts, and intricate examples can be found across cultures dating back thousands of years. The process uses simple tools: a hammer and various punches are used to create volume, form, and textures from a flat sheet of metal. This 1-day class will work with copper sheets, which are set in a pine-based pitch to stabilize the form while working and must be annealed between steps to maintain workability. Students will learn the basics of proper tool use and torch annealing, then apply their new skills towards Christmas ornaments of their choosing. No prior experience required; ages 16+ only.

Over the course of this 2-day class, students will receive short demos and talks to guide them through the tools and techniques for cabbing. Starting with a trimsaw, we’ll preform and polish with a cabbing machine and flat lap. Play and experimentation is encouraged, and students select the pieces that excite the most from a range of appropriate cutting material. Students learn special considerations for tailoring stones to use in jewelry and are expected to have at least 2 polished stones by the end of class. The finished stones may be brought in to use in a future class on bezels.
