MCPKids! Youth Camp: The Rainbow Fish 9:00am-2:00pm 25 12

Join us for MCP's Youth Summer Theater Camp. Our summer session show for our 6-12 year olds is The Rainbow Fish. This play is a flexible cast of 20-25 students.

About the play: Everybody loves the international bestseller and award-winning book, The Rainbow Fish, with its wonderful message of friendship and belonging.  This large-cast play features a variety of charming school and sea-creature characters, with plenty of room for unlimited under-the-sea extras!  These “denizens of the deep” admire the famous Rainbow Fish, the most beautiful fish in all the ocean.  But when Rainbow Fish refuses to share his (or her!)  vibrant, shimmering scales (played by separate actors who are an extension of Rainbow Fish), the whole ocean seems to turn against the vain creature.  Unhappy that no one adores him anymore, the Rainbow Fish seeks out the wise Octopus (whose tentacles are also played by separate actors).  Octopus helps the young fish learn that it’s far better to be admired for being kind than for being beautiful. With bubbly, energetic dialogue full of fun, fishy wordplay, this non-musical version invites wonderful creativity and flexibility, framed in a universal message of love, sharing, and kindness that is so much more than just a simple children’s story.

Adapted from the book by Marcus Pfister, translated into English by J.  Alison James, with illustrations by Marcus Pfister.

MCP Youth Camp will run daily from 9am-2pm from June 27th- July 10th. Daily camp sessions will be Monday-Friday (excluding July 4th). The performances will be the weekend of July 8-10. There will be 4 total performances, with evening shows on Friday and Saturday and afternoon shows on Saturday and Sunday. Auditions will take place in early June, and casting will occur before camp. Scripts will be handed out at auditions. The expectation will be that students come in familiar with their lines, and ready to work hard to put the show together in 2 weeks.

Students will be expected to bring their own lunch and a snack to camp daily, we do not provide food. Our focus for our MCP youth will be on acting, and the elements that we have to put together to create a performance. It will be a lot of work, but will be a rewarding and fun experience.

In addition, extended camp hours will be available before and after camp. Extended camp hours for the morning will be from 8am-9am and extended camp hours for the afternoon will be 2pm-4pm at the latest. There will be an additional fee of $100 for before care and $100 for after care for the duration of camp.

Tuition for the camp, which helps pay for show expenses and for staff, will be $200 per student. An initial non-refundable deposit of $50.00 will be due at the time of registration. This will hold your spot in the camp. The rest of the tuition and payment for before or after care will be due by auditions. Tuition waiver applications are available upon request.

The location is currently TBD, though we hope to continue partnering with Monmouth Memorial School to host camp at their facility.

MCP has adapted its COVID policy. Students will be required to mask while indoors and working during rehearsals. There will be time for mask breaks during the day outdoors. Vaccinations are NOT required to sign up.

If you have any questions, want to complete full payment before auditions, or need to request a tuition waiver, please reach out to our Education Director, Danny Gay, who will also be running MCPKids! Teen Camp. You can reach him at mcpkidsmaine@gmail.com or 207-400-4535.

Registration closes on June 1, in order to send out information for auditions near the beginning of June. Thank you!
