MCPKids! will bring the African savanna to life on stage with Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale.
The Lion King JR. features classic songs from the Broadway musical and animated feature film, including “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” “He Lives in You,” and “Hakuna Matata.” Young performers will also get the chance to learn a wide range of new theatrical skills—such as mask-making and puppetry—encouraging them to explore this beloved story with creativity and pride.
MCPKids! is excited to present its production summer camp for students in grades 6-8. This summer we are performing The Lion King Jr. with permission from Music Theatre International, Inc. The director for the show will be Danny Gay.
Camp dates are July 6-19, with camp hours 8-3 Mon-Fri both weeks. Performances will be 7pm on July 17, and 2pm on July 18 and 19. All rehearsals and performances will be in Winthrop at the Winthrop Middle and High Schools.
Before care will be offered from 7:00-8:00 and after care from 3:00-4:00. Both before care and after care are separate costs, at $100 each. Students are expected to bring their own food and snacks for rehearsals (food is not provided) as we are not certified to provide food.
An additional requirement for this camp will be to attend a 1 day workshop (date TBD) in June to learn about the cultural background of the show, proper pronunciation of the African languages used in the songs of the show, and some basic puppetry techniques, as this show will be performed as puppet theater, much like our production of Finding Nemo Jr a couple of summers ago.
Tuition for the 2 week camp is $375.00. A deposit of $50 is expected at sign up, and the rest of the tuition and before/after care payments are due in late May/early June at auditions (date TBD). Tuition and deposit will be non-refundable after the date of auditions. If you think you might withdraw and want a refund, please request this before May 1. If you have any questions or need help signing up, or if your student is going into grades 6-8, but you are unable to register due to the age restriction, please reach out to our Education Director, Danny Gay at mcpkidsmaine@gmail.com.
