Kids Audition Workshop 1:00pm-5:00pm 40 37

MCPKids! is excited to offer our first audition training workshop. In this workshop, led by MCP instructors, your student will have the opportunity to get some coaching on singing, choreography, and acting (cold read/monologues) and participate in a mock audition.

This workshop will take place at Monmouth's Cumston Hall Theater on the stage. Cumston Hall is located at 796 Main St, Monmouth, ME 04259. The workshop will take place from 1pm-5pm, with each hour being broken down into skills. Students will receive an hour each of vocal support, choreography support, and acting support. At the end of these three hours, students will participate in a mock audition process. Students will be given direct feedback on their mock audition that they can hopefully use to prepare for future auditions with MCPKids or other theater companies. Other MCP directors will be invited to provide additional feedback in this mock audition hour. This workshop is not meant to count as an audition for any particular show, but rather to teach students positive auditioning skills, which will help them to be successful when auditioning for shows in the future.

The instructors for this course include MCP's Education Director, Danny Gay, who will be providing the acting coaching. Danny has his BA in Theater from USM and has directed many student shows for both Schoolhouse Arts Center and MCP.  Rachel Scala will be providing the vocal training. Rachel is receiving her Masters in Vocal Pedagogy from USM and has music directed several MCPKids shows, including Descendents and Finding Nemo. Choreography will be taught by Gina Hesse, who has her BFA in Dance Studies, is a dance instructor with Grace Center for Movement in Auburn and who choreographed last year for MCP's productions of Heathers and Beauty and the Beast. Gina will be joining us this summer for our production of Newsies as the choreographer.

The material being used for the instruction of this camp will be material taken from our upcoming summer camp production of Newsies.

Tuition for this workshop will be $20 per participant. All students are welcome and invited to participate. This workshop is for students between the ages of 6 and 17.

Students that are currently enrolled in one of our summer camps (Newsies or Snow White and the Seven Endings) will be receiving a 25% discount on the registration fee for this workshop. This code will be emailed to the families that are currently signed up. If you sign up for Snow White before the workshop, email mcpkidsmaine@gmail.com to let us know about your interest in the workshop, and you will be provided with the discount code.

MCPKids! Performance Camp: Newsies Jr 9:00am-3:00pm 43 0

Disney's Newsies JR. is a 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film. Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.

When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys' expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what's right.

Including the now-classic songs "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," and "Santa Fe," Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.

MCPKids! Performance Camp: Snow White and the Seven Endings 9:00am-2:00pm 25 12

Happily-ever-after gets turned on its head in this comedic retelling of Snow White’s classic princess fairy tale.  When the seven forest dwellers reminisce about their recent run-in with a royal run-away, they each have a different take on how the story unfolds and who the real hero is.  But which is the real ending?  The only thing they agree about is that the Prince shouldn’t get the credit!

Laughter abounds as each of the seven forest dwellers takes their turn sharing their recollection of what happened to Snow White once she came to their cottage.  Which will be your favorite?  The mysterious ”And Then There Were Seven,” the melodramatic ”Perilous Plight of Miss Snow White,” or the slapstick ”Snow Alone — Lost in the Woods”?  Naturally, everyone loves the action-adventure ”Spindiana Jones and the Apple of Doom!”  There’s also the Shakespearean ”Mid-Snow White’s Dream” and the hysterical interpretive dance, ”The Hunt-Cracker,” along with the classic retelling. This show is a non-musical show, being produced with permission from Pioneer Drama Service Inc.
