For ages 18+  THEATRIX: Pivot! Improv - Intro - Winter 2026

“Yes, and…” New to improv? This class is perfect for beginners. Put the fun in the fundamentals of improvisation as you learn in a supportive, collaborative environment. Through warm-ups, engaging exercises, and short-form games, you'll discover the core principles of improv. We’ll focus on a specific skill each week, including character work, scene creation, physicality, active listening, and establishing a strong base reality. Boost your creativity and confidence, whether onstage or in everyday life!

CLASS MEETING TIME: Fridays • 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. • January 16 through March 20

WORKSHOP: Acting for the Camera (ages 16+) - Winter 2026 Saturday 1/17/26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. 15

For ages 16+  WORKSHOP: Acting for the Camera - Winter 2026

Learn to think of acting with the camera rather than for the camera, as the camera might be the most intimate scene partner an actor ever has! The relationship between the actor and the camera is critical. We’ll hone on-camera acting skills, focusing on works best for each actor. Students will work from a cold-read base and discuss text, space, and lighting. Material will be provided.

Wiley and the Hairy Man (ages 11-17) - Winter 2026 15

ONE MONTH BEFORE AUDITION WE WILL POST A LINK WITH INFORMATION FOR PRE-AUDITION AND AUDITION.

Deep within the Tombigbee swamp lives a fatherless boy named Wiley, his conjure-woman mother, his faithful dog – and the villainous Hairy Man, who lurks in the dark shadows to haunt the boy’s days and dreams. In a thrilling duel of wits, Wiley must confront his worst fears and reach deep into his own bag of tricks. There’s mystery in the mud, rhythm and rhyme in the air, and magic everywhere in this spine-tingling Southern folktale. 

As The Academy’s gift to the community, in collaboration with the City of Ocala/Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place and the Marion County Literacy Council, we offer this as a non-tuition-based performance opportunity.

All events will occur at The Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place.

PRE-AUDITION WORKSHOP: Saturday, February 14 at 10 a.m.

AUDITION: Saturday, February 21 at 10 a.m.

CALLBACKS: Sunday, February 22 at 12:30 p.m.

REHEARSAL: Sundays 1:30pm - 4:30pm;

Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

March 1 – April 3 (no rehearsal March 15-21)

No rehearsal 4/2/26.  Rehearsal is on 4/3/26 instead.

TECH: Saturday, April 4 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm & April 6 - 9 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

PERFORMANCES: Friday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. • Saturday, April 11 at 7 p.m. • Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m.

Tech Lab (ages 9-17) - Winter 2026 Wednesdays, 3/11/26, 3/25/26, 4/1/26 & 4/15/26 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 15

What makes the magic happen on stage? Take a peek behind the scenes for a hands-on exploration of the technical arts! Come learn the fascinating tech tricks of theatre from OCT’s brilliant wizards of costuming, stage makeup, scenic art, and sound design.
