with Sean Byrd

Saturday, March 22

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Adults (ages 18+)

$45.00

This introductory stage combat class will focus on the basic philosophies of SAFE stage violence. We will spend time working as a group and then through partner-work learn various techniques related to different types of hand-to-hand violence. Be ready to slap, punch and pull some hair (in the safest of ways) – culminating in a short fight that you might see or participate in on stage. Specifically designed for those who are new to stage combat.

Sean Byrd is an artist/educator based in Minneapolis and is also a certified actor/combatant through Dueling Arts International. As both an actor and director, his work has been seen on Twin Cities’ stages at companies such as Yellow Tree Theatre, Lyric Arts Theatre, DalekoArts, Artistry and others. In Duluth, he has worked with the Duluth Playhouse, Zeitgeist Theatre and the University of Minnesota - Duluth. Most recently, Sean directed an award-winning production of The Drowsy Chaperone for The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, WI. He has been a proud member of the Theatre Faculty at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN for 24 years, and in 2022 was awarded the Kennedy Center Gold Medallion for Excellence in Theatre Education.
