Each participant will be assigned a 10 minute play from the series “Get in the Car” written by local talents in Buffalo. EXPLORING ANCIENT ALLEGANY

Exploring Ancient Allegany: Off the Beaten Track Photography & Hiking Adventures

May 17th, 7am-4pm, $95 to register

This hike is a guided wilderness bushwhack through some of Allegany's mostly unknown and seldom visited old growth forests, a couple of which are among the largest remaining intact ancient forests in the Northeast. Amble through enchanting landscapes where you’ll see some of the largest and tallest trees in the region, picturesque mossy-bouldered creeks featuring many small waterfalls, intriguing root formations and much more. These areas are unique and wondrous, a world left to it's own devices, largely unaltered by man.

Have you ever planted seeds and had nothing sprout? Many perennial and native seeds require special treatment to germinate. In this beginner-friendly class, Sarah Sorci of Sweet Flag Herbs will spotlight her favorite culinary and medicinal native herbs for the garden. She will guide you through their cultivation, and we'll discuss delicious and safe uses of each species. Each participant will practice seed scarification and cold-moist stratification and take home prepared seeds for spring planting (rose mallow and nodding onion).

Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese method of printing fish, used by fishermen to record their catches. In this class, we will use latex molds of a variety of sea creatures and plants as our printing plates. With Janet Vedder.

In this full 4-hour workshop, learn weaving basics and get a taste for modern fiber art. You'll work with a pre-selected palette and materials and a pre-warped frame loom and learn how to weave. Instruction will include weaving time as well as tips and tricks for finishing and hanging your work. Students will leave with beginners weaving knowledge, and a completed fiber art piece. A laidback workshop where you’ll get a chance to unleash your inner creativity by sculpting a piece of art from your own block of concrete and marble dust. There won’t be any chiseling or grinding; the block will be in the process of hardening, so you’ll have a small window of time to create that masterpiece. Block sizes will be around 6x8x10”. No sculpting knowledge or artistic skill level required- just an active imagination. All tools, materials and gloves will be provided. With Brian Pfeiffer.

This three-part painting workshop will set the groundwork for better paintings over time. Geared for intermediate students, the focus will be the planning and design steps that result in more masterful paintings. The lessons will emphasize where and how you put paint down, shapes used, values arranged, and colors selected. The aim will not be on a single wonderful painting but rather smaller size paintings that allow for easy corrections. Participants will select their own media and subject matter to work with. VOCAL HEALTH WORKSHOP

This interactive workshop will guide participants through a warm-up routine addressing proper posture, breathing, intonation, vowels, resonance, and character that can be used daily to improve and sustain good vocal health. The class will open with a discussion on vocal cord function, and the proper habits/behaviors that go into sustaining life long vocal hygiene. Participants will work through a common popular song as a group while applying these ideas/techniques. At the end, each member will leave with a deeper understanding of their own voice and how to use it efficiently without strain, tension, or fatigue. Please come hydrated and ready to sing!
