A grab bag of arts activities - drawing, painting, sculpture…whatever you can think of. Each day has different featured activities and guest artists. Kids will be grouped by grades and will visit all of our spaces including Springville Center for the Arts, Arts Underground, The Lab, and Art's Cafe.

BOTANICAL TEXTILE PRINTING TWO-WAYS: FORCE AND LIGHT

August 11th : Noon to 4pm : $65 / $59 members : Olmsted Camp

Capture a floral composition using cyanotype, a manual photographic printing process used to create print patterns. Work with pressed flowers and a variety of other organic materials to create botanical-based compositions. While prints develop, students will also learn how to imprint blossoms into fabric using fresh blooms, greenery, and a hammer to express pigments, commonly referred to as "Flower Pounding." Students will forage botanicals from the grounds and gardens of the Olmsted Camp while enjoying a day outdoors drawing inspiration from nature. With Tami Fuller.

Kids bring the imagination and energy. Adults facilitate the use of tools and design. Kids learn basic tool techniques and use pallets and junk to build a fort city or castle of their own design on the SCA lawn.

August 2nd : 9:30am to 12:30pm : $40 / $36 members : Vacanti Classroom

Experience hands-on guidance with several fun and informative mountain and tree landscape tutorials, and then paint your personal interpretation of a Chinese Landscape using water-soluble Chinese Ink and Watercolor on Rice Paper. With Jennifer Koury.

Students will spend the day exploring the fundamentals of basket making and making use of organic, foraged materials like grapevine to weave a basket or natural form. This class will be held outdoors, weather permitting, in order to draw inspiration from the natural world and provide a restful setting for creating natural woven art. Students will leave with a basic knowledge of the weaving technique, and a grapevine basket or sculptural form. With Tami Fuller.

Explore the basics of weaving with a simple frame loom outdoors, draw inspiration from the natural world, and connect with the meditative qualities of nature. Participants will learn how to warp, select materials for  texture and strength, and receive instruction on tabby, twining, and selected techniques as you build a small wall hanging or abstract piece. Students will leave with beginner weaving knowledge, along with a completed ready to mount fiber art piece. With Tami Fuller.

In this process-oriented camp, kids will explore the building blocks of musical theater and participate in fun activities resulting in a full theater production on the SCA main stage. We Are Monsters is a hilarious new musical that follows human kids into a monster cabaret filled with quirky monster characters. The adventurous humans uncover vegetarian vampires and rock n’ roll werewolves, gradually realizing there may be more to these monsters than meets the eye! Most importantly these monsters and kids discover the importance of friendship and celebrating the attributes that make each of us different and unique.

Auditions 6/28 1pm or by appointment
Performances 7/19 at 7pm and 7/20 at 4pm

In this process-oriented camp, kids will explore the building blocks of musical theater and participate in fun activities resulting in a full theater production on the SCA main stage. When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up.

Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Come to auditions prepared to sing 32 bars of any musical theater piece. Bring music or a backing track. Blue tooth provided. You will be asked to cold read sides.

This creativity program for ages 2 through 5 includes painting, dance, theatrical storytelling, story making, acting out scenes, and general art-making mayhem. “Sparkers” work with guest artists, our visual arts and theater interns or just explore on their own. Meets at Arts Underground every Friday. 6 sessions.

Using an animation technique called “Stop Motion” students will create their own short videos. Students will create a storyboard for their own original animation. Using a camera, the animations will be filmed and edited by the students to create a unique end product!
