Advanced Acting & Improv 20 19

Students will get to explore the world of acting and improv like never before by doing some in-depth character studies through monologue and scenes, writing both comedy and drama, and even exploring the exciting world of improv comedy.

In the end, students will develop a short showcase that hones in on the special skills that they want to show off and that is sure to delight the audience.

Creative Kids (Thursdays) Thursdays, 4:00-5:00 p.m. 15 15

Get your five- to seven-year-old involved in the theatre, and allow them to explore the arts through creative play. This class is meant to help your young children develop self-awareness, increase self-confidence, and boost their communication skills through loads of fun and energetic activities led by one of our resident teaching artists, Mary Johns.

Musical Theatre Dance Fridays, 3:45-5:15 30 30

Guest Artist Anne Brown will lead students through an intensive warm-up before focusing on technique in the wide array of dance disciplines the make-up musical theatre, which draws from ballet, jazz, contemporary, and even ballroom. The class will also work on a choreographed musical theatre piece which they will present as part of the Classroom Series Showcase at the end of each semester.

Musical Theatre Studies Tuesdays, 3:45-5:15 20 20

Formerly known as Musical Theatre Cabaret, Musical Theatre Studies will help students explore the world of musical theatre by developing two to three ensemble song and dance numbers with resident artists Walter Allen and Jeanne Patterson.

Then, they will use these numbers and a selection of solo and group pieces to put together a group showcase that will have the audience tapping their toes and singing along.

Musical Theatre Tap (Beg. & Int.) Thursdays, 3:45-5:15 20 20

Students will dive into the world of tap dance and learn tap technique and form with resident artist Walter Allen and guest artist Megan Olinger while having fun practicing and dancing to musical theatre standards. This class is open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Each student will be challenged on his or her level with a focus on improving technique, broadening knowledge of both traditional and modern tap terminology, and exploring the world of tap choreography.

Young Performers, Level 1 Thursdays, 3:45-5:15 25 19

Each semester, Young Performers will mount an original one-act production! Designed to train young students in theatrical elements such as projection, memorization, stage presence, and teamwork, the weekly workshop format is ideal for the busy family and the even busier child. Also, the training is invaluable for younger students looking to shine in principle roles in SYAA's CenterStage productions.

Each session of the class, the theme of the show will vary, but each show is unique and exciting in its own way. This semester, the class will be exploring what happens after happily ever after by creating their own version of Disney's Descendants.

Young Performers, Level 2 Fridays, 3:45-5:15 25 23

Young Performers, Level 2 will help students use their skills to advance in performing and characterization techniques. They will work on comedic timing, effective facial expressions, and creative movement all while developing a short showcase piece for the Classroom Series Showcase.

**Students, ages 10-12, must have completed at least one semester of Young Performers, Level 1, or have participated in at least one SYAA CenterStage Production. Students, ages 13-14, are free to join without previous experience.
