Creative Kids Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00 15 1

Get your five- to seven-year-old involved in the theatre, and allow them to explore the arts through creative play. This class is meant to help your young children develop self-awareness, increase self-confidence, and boost their communication skills through loads of fun and energetic activities led by one of our resident teaching artists, Nicole Morris.

Improv 101 Monday, 3:45-5:15 20 18

Explore the world of improvisational comedy through fun theatre games and a series of improv challenges that will help your students think fast and be ready for any situation. Here students will begin to develop their improv skills and prepare to show off in the Classroom Showcase for the family and friends at the end of the semester.

* Students ages 12-14, who have not enrolled in Improv 102 prior to this semester should register for Improv 101. Then, if they choose, they may audition for Improv 102. Only students who show an understanding of improvisational comedy structure and who can think quickly on their feet will be transferred into the 102 program.

Improv 102 Mondays, 3:45-5:15 20 12

In this advanced Improv class, students will hone their intermediate skills by focusing on deeper improvisational topics like comedy and timing. The semester-long class will culminate with our gala showcase styled after the comedic television show "Whose Line Is it Anyway?".

Musical Theatre Dance Fridays, 3:45-5:15 30 24

Resident artist Walter Allen will lead students through an intensive warm-up before focusing on technique in the wide array of dance disciplines the make-up musical theatre, which draws from ballet, jazz, contemporary, and even ballroom. The class will also work on a choreographed musical theatre piece which they will present as part of the Classroom Series Showcase at the end of each semester.

Musical Theatre Tap Thursday, 3:45-5:15 20 15

Students will dive into the world of tap dance and learn tap technique and form with resident artist Walter Allen while having fun practicing and dancing to musical theatre standards. This class is open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Each student will be challenged on his or her level with a focus on improving technique, broadening knowledge of both traditional and modern tap terminology, and exploring the world of tap choreography.

Tech Theatre for Teens Tuesdays, 3:45-5:15 10 8

If you build it, they will come... SYAA’s Junior Technical Director Allison Briggs will help students learn the ins and outs of tech theatre as you help prepare the SYAA stage for CenterStage productions by building sets, creating costumes, and mastering props.‚Äč

Young Performers, Level 1 (Afternoon Session) Thursdays, 3:45-5:15 25 15

This is the afternoon session. If you want to enroll for the evening session, please choose the next class in the list.

Each semester, Young Performers will mount a new one-act production, written and staged by resident artist Kelly Flores! Designed to train young students in theatrical elements such as projection, memorization, stage presence, and teamwork, the weekly workshop format is ideal for the busy family and the even busier child. Also, the training is invaluable for younger students looking to shine in principle roles in SYAA's CenterStage productions.

Each session of the class, the theme of the show will vary, but each show is unique and exciting in its own way. This semester, the afternoon class (starting at 3:45) will be on the case with a showcase themed around the popular A TO Z MYSTERIES.

Young Performers, Level 1 (Evening Session) Thursdays, 5:30-7:00 25 22

This is the evening session. If you want to enroll for the afternoon session, please choose the previous class in the list.

Each semester, Young Performers will mount a new one-act production, written and staged by resident artist Kelly Flores! Designed to train young students in theatrical elements such as projection, memorization, stage presence, and teamwork, the weekly workshop format is ideal for the busy family and the even busier child. Also, the training is invaluable for younger students looking to shine in principle roles in SYAA's CenterStage productions.

Each session of the class, the theme of the show will vary, but each show is unique and exciting in its own way. This semester, the evening class (starting at 5:30) will go back to school and explore the comic strip humor of BIG NATE.

Young Performers, Level 2 Fridays, 3:45-5:15 25 22

In Young Performers, Level 2, resident artist Kelly Flores will help students use their skills to advance in performing and characterization techniques. They will work on comedic timing, effective facial expressions, and creative movement all while developing a short showcase piece for the Classroom Series Showcase. Each semester the theme of the showcase will vary. This semester, the students will let out their deepest darkest secrets as they recreate the world of the DORK DIARIES.

**Students, ages 10-12, must have completed at least one semester of Young Performers, Level 1, or have participated in at least one SYAA CenterStage Production. Students, ages 13-14, are free to join without previous experience.
