Creative Kids Mondays, 4:00-5:00 15 15

Get your five- to seven-year-old involved in the theatre, and allow them to explore the arts through creative play. This class is meant to help your young children develop self-awareness, increase self-confidence, and boost their communication skills through loads of fun and energetic activities led by one of our resident teaching artists, Nicole Morris.

Musical Theatre Dance Fridays, 3:45-5:15 30 30

Resident artist Walter Allen and guest artist Taylor Yakowenko will lead students through an intensive warm-up before focusing on technique in the wide array of dance disciplines the make-up musical theatre, which draws from ballet, jazz, contemporary, and even ballroom. The class will also work on a choreographed musical theatre piece which they will present as part of the Classroom Series Showcase at the end of each semester.

Musical Theatre Tap Thursdays, 3:45-5:15 20 20

Students will dive into the world of tap dance and learn tap technique and form with resident artist Walter Allen and guest artist Taylor Yakowenko while having fun practicing and dancing to musical theatre standards. This class is open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Each student will be challenged on his or her level with a focus on improving technique, broadening knowledge of both traditional and modern tap terminology, and exploring the world of tap choreography.

Studio SYAA Mondays, 3:45-5:15 20 20

Our Improv 101 and 102 classes are changing it up this semester and becoming Studio SYAA! Students will continue to learn the art of improvisation and will still play many of the games they know and love including those featured on the television hit, "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"

But also, in the tradition of Studio City, Mad TV, and Saturday Night Live, students will hone their comedy and acting chops by workshopping, writing, and starring in sketch comedy. And don't worry, as a parent, you won't be left out because you'll get to laugh until your sides hurt when the class is produces a special comedy performance as part of our semi-annual Spring Gala in May.

Once the after-school semester ends mid-April, Studio SYAA will continue to meet at its regularly scheduled time until the Spring Gala performance in May.

Tech Theatre for Teens Tuesdays, 3:45-5:15 10 10

If you build it, they will come... SYAA’s Junior Technical Director Allison Briggs will help students learn the ins and outs of tech theatre as you help prepare the SYAA stage for CenterStage productions by building sets, creating costumes, and mastering props.​

Class participants are invited to the Classroom Showcase on Tues., Apr. 30 (6 p.m.), where their artwork will be displayed in the lobby as part of the program. However, they will not perform or present anything on stage.

Workshop: Auditioning for a Play Feb. 16 & 23, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. 30 30

In this two-day workshop led by Resident Director and Choreographer Walter Allen will guide students as they prepare for their next play audition. Students will leave with at least two contrasting monologues, cut appropriately for an audition. They will also garner experience by participating in multiple faux auditions, with critiques that follow each. Finally, students will explore cold reading as they look toward our next CenterStage Production, Wonderland High.

Young Performers, Level 1 Thursdays, 3:45-5:15 25 25

Each semester, Young Performers will mount a new one-act production, written and staged by resident artist Kelly Flores! Designed to train young students in theatrical elements such as projection, memorization, stage presence, and teamwork, the weekly workshop format is ideal for the busy family and the even busier child. Also, the training is invaluable for younger students looking to shine in principle roles in SYAA's CenterStage productions.

Each session of the class, the theme of the show will vary, but each show is unique and exciting in its own way. This semester, the afternoon class (starting at 3:45) will be on the case with a showcase themed around Disney's latest hit Ralph Breaks the Internet.

Young Performers, Level 2 Fridays, 3:45-5:15 25 25

In Young Performers, Level 2, resident artist Kelly Flores will help students use their skills to advance in performing and characterization techniques. They will work on comedic timing, effective facial expressions, and creative movement all while developing a short showcase piece for the Classroom Series Showcase. Each semester the theme of the showcase will vary. This semester, the students will let out their inner superhero as they recreate the world of the CAPTAIN MARVEL AND HER LEAGUE OF SUPER WOMEN.

**Students, ages 10-12, must have completed at least one semester of Young Performers, Level 1, or have participated in at least one SYAA CenterStage Production. Students, ages 13-14, are free to join without previous experience.
