03. Sketch Comedy Intensive Tuesdays, March 4 to May 6, 6pm-8pm 15

Over the course of these 9 weeks, the team will write, direct, and perform a complete sketch comedy show.

Similar in style to SNL’s sketch shows (and writing process), we will spend the first few weeks learning about sketch writing and getting comfortable with writing together in small groups. Ultimately, they will produce enough original material to put together into a show and the latter weeks of the class will be spent rehearsing the sketches.

Team members will get experience with every aspect of the process: pitching ideas, writing sketches, helping to figure out staging, directing, and performing. We hope that does not deter people who feel nervous about any step of the project; We will take plenty of time to provide new tools to help increas writing competency and comedic performing. Any level of experience with writing or acting is welcome!

This class will be taught by Keziah Wilde, with help from members of Middlebury College’s sketch comedy club.

Introducing the beginnings of THT Center for Learning's pathways to becoming a professional, Improviso means "all of a sudden," and in this class, youth will be trained in the art of creating something from nothing, all of a sudden. Yes, this includes the principles of physical and verbal improvisation, but it also works the muscles of collaboration, sharing a scene with a partner, and exploring the actor/audience relationship through performance. This class will minimize sets, costumes, make up, and lights, instead using only the important raw materials of creating an engaging performance.
This Season we offer Improviso: Monsters in the Shadows
You will work on scenes and speeches from Frankenstein, Macbeth and Beowolf to explore the suspense and terror of  lurking monsters popping up all of a sudden.
This class is led by Lindsay Pontius and Keziah Wilde.

Students will develop strength, balance, flexibility, musicality and confidence through learning contemporary and modern techniques. They will also learn dance combinations, and have fun creating their own movements!
Prior dance, music, gymnastics, yoga or sports training is helpful.
 
At the end of the session there will be an informal studio performance.

She taught dance at Spotlight Vermont, UVM, VBT School, CD&FS, Ottawa Dance Center and was an adjunct dance professor at St. Michael's College. She holds a B.S. in Education.

Let's Play! An Exploration of Creativity through Paint and Word is an invitation to Middlebury neighbors to come and try some new things. Leigh Harder will be taking class members through an introduction to alcohol ink and guided experiences in painting flowers, landscapes and collage. As the visual art session ends, the class will shift to poetry. In this section Leigh will guide the class through a variety of poetic devices and forms, opening each session with a mentor poem, conducting interactive experiences playing with language, writing poems together and then independently. No prior experience is needed for this workshop and it will be conducted with a nod to playfulness and openness, two important components of creativity.

In this course, students will develop a more nuanced sense of their own body’s capacity for movement. In the first half of the course, you will learn to get to know your body as an instrument of expression, to release tension, warm-up with physical awareness and use movement to embody feelings, ideas and characterization.

The second half of the course will focus on preparing the mind and body for dance in theater productions such as musicals. We will work on moving quickly, dancing with grace and confidence, and honing one's ability to learn specific set dance vocabulary and combinations.
 

This class will be great for actors looking to expand their ability to move and dance.

15. Taiji Quan Wednesdays, March 5-May 7, 9am-10am 25

These 9 weeks of Taiji Quan are an introduction to the principles and philosophy of this internal martial art form through the instruction and guidance of local practitioner, Rachel Edwards, MS, LAc..  Class time includes warm-up exercises and practicing slow, gentle Yang style Taiji movements to cultivate greater balance, ease and flexibility.    In addition, students are introduced to tui shou or push hands and other partner exercises to practice listening and following. Qigong and standing meditation (zhan zhuang) are also integrated into the curriculum.

As a Chinese Medicine practitioner, Rachel considers Taiji Quan both a method of cultivating health and wellbeing as well as a path to embody a deeper sense of interconnectivity that contributes to the realized care of ourselves, our planet, and all beings.  

All ages are welcomed and no experience is necessary.

Discover how to bring songs to life in this dynamic workshop for performers ages 11-18. In Acting Through Song, students will learn how to connect emotionally to lyrics, enhance their storytelling, and deliver captivating performances. Each singer will work on one solo piece, receiving individual coaching to refine their vocal technique and acting skills.

The session culminates in a cabaret performance for family and friends on the final Saturday. Whether they’re new to musical theater or looking to deepen their craft, this intensive is the perfect place to grow and perform!

This class will be led by Vanessa Dunleavy, a local 500 hour certified yoga instructor, dancer, and singer, with a passion for stroytelling and the arts.

This class is designed to be fun and to expand young people’s love of movement. This dance class introduces young dancers to basic technical principles of alignment and coordination in center and across the floor. Students will collaborate in brief partner studies and practice ensemble group forms. 

This class will be taught by Middlebury College dance students, Gabrielle Anchondo and Evelyn Rodriguez. 

Evelyn Rodriguez '26 is a Dance major and Computer Science minor at Middlebury College. She began dancing in middle school, focusing on modern dance but enjoys exploring various genres. Evelyn is dedicated to creating an engaging an uplifting experience in class. 

Gabrielle is a sophomore at Middlebury College, where she has worked with Laurel Jenkins on various dance projects. She has been dancing seriously since the age of 8, training with the Chicago Multicultural Dance Center, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, and as a company member of Noumenon Dance Company from 2021-2023.

Over this four-week adventure, led by Carol Buzby, you’llbe learning about some of our most beloved spring animals: chicks and bees! We will be incubating fertile chicken eggs and monitoring the embryos' development inside. By candling the eggs, we can observe embryo movement and growth, blood vessels, shrinking yolk, and the supporting structures inside the eggs. Through various activities, we'll learn about the unique design and strength of the eggs.

As time allows, we will also explore question about bees and their amazing behaviors: their "waggle dance," worker bee jobs in the hive, why a hexagonal honeycomb structure is such a smart design, and the important role bees play in pollinating VT crops.  

 

Each week, you’ll embrace the arrival of spring by doing chicken and bee related activities, from egg drops to learning about the power of pollinators.

This May, the Town Hall theater will be offering a beginning east coast swing class! In this four-week series, you will learn proper posture and connection between the lead and followYou will learn the six count open basic and closed V positions, inside and outside turns and several more step patternsAt the end of this beginning series you will be able to go social dancing and look awesome!! 

This class is taught by incredible local dancer, David Rose. This is sure to be a blast and an efficient way to learn the basics of this partner dance. No experience necessary!!! 

When registering, please choose if you will be a lead or follow (any gender can lead or follow).  We are always short of leads so if you don't care, please sign up as a lead. You do not need to sign up with a partner!

In this workshop, attendees will work with Keziah Wilde to write and perform original, personal stories, in the same style at the Moth podcast!

Over the four weeks, the students will develop their ideas, practice public speaking, and ultimately perform an 8-10 minute story without notes. 

The last class, on June 5th, will include a performance, starting at 5pm.

This is a great class for both writers and performers, and just anybody who likes to talk or has a story to share.

In this epic week of STEAM adventures, you will learn about a whole collection of science related concepts in a super fun, hands-on way. 

We will spend a couple days with bubbles, asking questions like, How do bubbles form inside polyhedra?  What is surface tension? How can we make bubble art? Can we make a really large bubble? We might even make one so big that it can go over your whole body. 

We will spend some time looking at optical illusions and all the ways our eyes can trick us. We will make secret messages using the properties of light, as well as 3D glasses!

We may also have a day making Gak out of borax and glue to see the chemical reaction between those two substances and what they come together to form.

Come and Join us for our first ever full-day camp tying together STEAM, puppetry and theatre arts. We will use Rube Goldberg cartoons and Cauder's mobiles for inspiration. Actors and makers will create imaginative mechanical devises, study the lives of, and learn to think like inventors. They will be engaged in physic experiments, stage craft, playwriting and acting to deliver a multi-media theatrical extravaganza on Friday the 11th at 2pm for parents and friends.

Join Young Company Classical and perform in the stage production of Peter and the Starcatcher. Based on the 2004 novel Peter and the Starcatchers, by Dave Barry and Ridley Pierson, this production is a prequel to the story of the beloved characters of Peter Pan. The show is delightfully funny and incredibly poignant as it meanders through themes of friendship, discovering yourself, and growing up.  

Directed by Nick Suchomel and Keziah Wilde participants are guided through a rigorous training process including physical, vocal and text work. Actors of all ages come together to share their experience and build an ensemble that consistently amazes and delights the audience. Culminating performances August 15 & 16.
