Intro to Spokane establishes the basic goals and fundamentals of the longform show structure Spokane. This fast-paced, high energy form rewards exploring your wildest characters and situations as soon as they come up and leads to a super fun show that audiences love.
Students will learn the essential mechanics of and most effective approaches to the form including creating sturdy Source Scenes and organically exploring show content. This course includes two class shows, one after Week 6 and another after Week 8.
Prerequisite:
Completion of Union Comedy Level 4 or at least 2 years of longform improv experience. Email Pat at pkearnan@unioncomedy.com with any questions.

Instructor Bio:
Stacey Snyder has been an improviser since 2013, currently performing with the Union Comedy House Team, Medusa. She was also a longtime cast member and director on ImprovBoston's Harold Night. Stacey is a full time instruction librarian at Berklee College of Music & the Boston Conservatory and loves to plan engaging classes with tons of feedback and improv trivia! |

The second course in our core curriculum takes a more focused look at 2-person scenes with an emphasis on character. Students will learn how to make instinctive choices, unpack information, and define their character's worldview. This is supported by exploring comedic ideas through tags and expanding patterns to create satisfying scenic montages.
Prerequisite:

This course introduces students to the skills and techniques involved in creating a cohesive and engaging longform improv performance. They will study making external support moves to heighten and explore comedic ideas, using previous scenes to inspire new ones, and developing their show memory. The course also introduces students to the classic longform structure known as The Harold. Students should leave this course feeling comfortable performing a complete, uninterrupted 25-minute longform show.

Instructor Bio:
Emily Holland started doing improv in 2004 & started getting laughs in 2007. She's a former ImprovBoston resident cast member, teacher and the associate producer. Emily taught as adjunct faculty at Clark University Visual & Performing Arts for 5 years, before moving to Los Angeles (the first time), where she trained, performed and coached at UCB and iOWest. She has been fortunate to perform & teach workshops at comedy festivals all over North America and Japan. Emily has studied astrology for 3 years, after a lifetime of reading her horoscope. She can guess a lot of your chart in a little bit of time & would love to discuss. Her most cherished time on stage was a duoset with Emo Phillips on Valentine’s Day. |
