Do you want to create a funny, unique, and believable character for your next sketch? In this small group workshop, you’ll hone your acting and writing skills to bring your character ideas from the page to the stage—followed by a performance in front of a live audience the next day.

Instructor Bio:

Kaitlin Buckley is a comedy writer and actress living in Somerville, Massachusetts. She is the head writer and a cast member of Old School Game Show, a live interactive trivia variety show featuring sketch comedy that has performed at venues including OBERON, Laugh Boston, and The Wilbur Theatre.

Crash Course: Three-Person Monoscene w/ Devin Quinlan Sat 12/18 2-5pm, 6pm Show 9 8

Crash Course

This small performance-oriented workshop puts you on a whirlwind one-day introduction to a specific type of show. You'll be joining a 3-person team, learning the ins and outs of the show in a jam-packed 3 hours, and then performing it in front of a live audience. Sign up with two friends or come solo and get put into a group of 3 when you arrive. Prior improv experience required.

This week's show: Three-Person Monoscene

The three-person monoscene is a dynamic and rewarding format that is an audience favorite for its simplicity. No edits, no cut-tos, just one long scene that builds towards a climactic finale. Sign up with two other friends, or get put into a three-person group, and you'll get 3 hours of reps, tips, and feedback focused on getting on the same page quickly so that you can have fun and build momentum for the rest of the show.

Instructor Bio:

Devin Quinlan has been performing and teaching improv in the Boston area since 2012, notably at ImprovBoston where where was a Harold Night performer & director for several years. He's done just about every longform improv format and style, but has a particular fondness for the three-person monoscene, which he's performed with SITMO, KDM and Third Wheel.

Are you a performer on an indie team looking to get some extra reps onstage? Join Union Comedy instructors from 10am-12pm on Sundays for INDIE BOOT CAMP. We’ll break into mixer teams, run some exercises and perform a couple “sets” for each other.

This class is open to all current members of Boston Indie improv teams.

Instructor Bio:

Kayleigh Kane (she/her/hers) is a Boston-based multi-disciplinary artist whose practice includes acting, comedy, creative movement, staged intimacy, improvisation, and other theatre-making. Since joining the Boston theatre community in 2016, she has performed frequently around the fringe theatre and improv scene. As a movement artist, she works with directors, performers, and ensembles to design character movement, choreograph dance pieces, craft sequences of theatrical intimacy, and more. In the classroom, Kayleigh uses a combination of established techniques and original exercises, and strives to maintain an environment of respect, flexibility, and constant communication. She is a strong advocate for consent and mental wellness, and applies these values in every rehearsal and classroom.
