Drawing Techniques Inspired by 5 Masters in Art History.
Students will explore 5 different drawing techniques using black and white conté crayons, graphite, and ink to study still life inspired by 5 selected Masters of Drawing in Art history:
1. Georges Seurat – BOLD “irradiation technique” drawing using conte crayon black and white dark values in the subjects and negative space.
2. Rembrandt van Rijn – BROKEN line work drawing to convey movement, volume, and form in graphite and ink.
3. Georgia O’Keeffe (along with Kathe Kollwitz) – DIRECT drawing techniques with compositions of lines that form dramatic and dark strokes in shapes and contours in charcoal (while eliminating unimportant details).
4. Vincent Van Gogh – EXPRESSIVE lines drawn in ink inspired by nature to provide interest and texture to movement in unique surroundings.
5. Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingress – Demonstrates the uniqueness and importance of contour in a closed form titled the “LOST AND FOUND LINE” in graphite and charcoal.
