Sara Grover “Abolitionists of Southeast Minnesota”
In the decades leading up to the U.S. Civil War, abolitionists from eastern
states migrated westward to thwart the expansion of slavery into the “free” territory.
Abolitionists were among the early American settlers arriving in Minnesota in the 1850s.
Some were considered radical for their time and had been involved in the Underground
Railroad before settling here.
Sara Holger will share stories she has gathered through oral history interviews with
descendants of abolitionists who called southeast Minnesota home before slavery was
abolished in America. Enroll |
