This class examines how text analysis, in partnership with your scene partner and the screenwriter or playwright, reveals action at its core. Often, it is by identifying what is missing in the text that action emerges. Action is like the mortar between bricks—when used to build your performance, it makes you more directable. Actors will revisit the foundations of action, understand its importance, and integrate it into a fully realized performance. Too often, actors play only what is written on the page, inventing motivations they find interesting instead of focusing on the action needed to tell the story. In this class, students will collaboratively work on a single script, culminating in a group performance. Enroll |
