The Auditioning workshop is appropriate for actors and directors at all levels of experience.  Every participant is expected to be active and present for the group.  While the focus will be on auditioning for ‘regular’ plays, auditioning for film and musicals will be discussed.  Participants who would like to present a prepared piece should make a note of that at registration.  

Topics covered include:

  • A philosophy of auditioning
  • Preparing for an audition
  • The job of the actor
  • Actor self-awareness
  • What directors are looking for in an audition
  • Prepared pieces
  • Cold readings
  • Working with your auditioner (who may also be the director)
  • Other topics as they arise

About the Instructor:

Andy Friedlander served as Chair of the Skagit Valley College Drama Department for 26 years, from 1984-2010, teaching thousands of actors skills and techniques for the stage.

Andy is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama with focus on Directing for the Stage and acting. He is a founding stage director of Shakespeare Northwest and with years of experience teaching Shakespearean verse and vocal training.

Andy Friedlander is a Renaissance Man; an acclaimed abstract Painter and block Print Maker, owner of the Samish River Art Studio and is a leading member, featured guitarist and lead vocalist with the Prozac Mountain Boys. As an educator at SVC Andy has years of experience with integrated leaning and is as a freelance educational consultant with expertise in the areas of curriculum development, course development, integrated learning and assessment on the college level.

Refund/Cancellation Policy $50.00 of each tuition is non-refundable. The remainder of tuition is refundable up to, and including, the first day of camp. No refunds will be given after the first day. If Camp is cancelled due to lack of enrollment, a full refund will be given.
