Photography and Journaling (5 sessions)

Adult Beginner-Intermediate

Instructor: Laura Bendoly

(Fall#1) Tuesdays, September 10 – October 8

10:00am – 12:00pm

In a bound journal, students will create a miniature photo gallery with side-by-side written meditations. Photos will be those you shoot at home as well as some that we capture on photo walks during class time. Pictures might be still life, large landscape, black & white, or full color. We will workshop images as a group for edit and revision. Then we will craft meditations to go with selections of those photos. Your finished product is a gallery-journal that demonstrates a way to consider observing the world around you, making poetry from the everyday with yourself as narrator, central to the whole, the anchor on which your gallery holds. Students are responsible for saving 15-30 images on a thumb drive, being ready to workshop their photos with a group, and bringing in a durable paper-bound journal for free writing exercises. You can use any DSLR or cell phone camera as long as you can save and export files in a JPG and photoshop (PNG) file. You are encouraged to use an editing suite (phone or computer) and be ready to spend sufficient time between class meetings to take more photos and make edits to photography and narrative writing.
