Drag Workshop, facilitated by Kelindah Bee
Saturday, May 3rd, 11am – 5pm
Ages 12 – 18
Description
In this workshop, teens will have the opportunity to connect, express themselves authentically, and create performances inspired by the colorful art form of Drag. Participants will be invited to build a drag persona with a focus on facial expression, movement style, character motivations and costume choices. Through group games, solo exploration, partnered creation exercises, and the tool of lip sync, artists will get to know their characters and their ensemble in a supportive creative environment. We will focus on Drag as an art form of transformation and its capacity to impact social movements as a tool of self-discovery, personal storytelling, and political commentary.
This will culminate in an in-progress performance share/celebration to showcase what the participants have been working on and to celebrate the community they have been cultivating throughout the day. This workshop will center queer and trans wisdom, and it is open to all teens ages 12-18 who identify as queer, trans, gender-expansive, fluid, curious, questioning or in allyship to the LQBTQ+ community.
