Musical Theatre Choreography draws from a variety of styles. While many musicals usually use "jazz" based choreography, Broadway shows throughout the years draw from everything from ballet and tap, to hip hop and modern dance styles.  This workshop is perfect for both those who are new to dance and for those students that already have dance experience.  The workshop will begin with a warm up (including stretches, isolations, and core strengthening) followed by floor work and choreography.  We will touch on different kinds of dance vocabulary and beginners can learn different steps while more advanced students work on refining skills.  Students will then get practice learning a dance combination the same way we teach them at auditions and in rehearsals.  This workshop is a fun way to get practice engaging in dance and choreography for the theatre.  Dance training is important for actors and consistent classes and practice are the only good way to build technique in the long run.  Our workshops are a great chance to keep engaged with theatrical dance and try new things, gaining experience along the way.

The two sections of this class will be run the same way but with different choreography and continual refinement of skills based on the participants.  You do not need to take one class to take the other and all are welcome at both!

Come dressed to move in comfortable clothing.  Jazz shoes, sneakers, or keds style shoes are all appropriate.
