Concert Description:

Love ignites, passions clash, and music dances across the stage in this dynamic program led by Music Director candidate Ryan Tani. The evening opens with Leonard Bernstein’s electrifying Overture to West Side Story, a bold and brassy tribute to one of the greatest love stories ever set to music.
Violinist Ilana Setapen then takes the spotlight for Arturo Márquez’s Fandango, a fiery new violin concerto infused with the rhythmic energy of Mexican dance, traditional folk spirit, and dazzling virtuosity.
After intermission, the drama deepens with selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet suites. From the menacing strut of “Montagues and Capulets” to the aching tenderness of “Romeo and Juliet Before Parting,” this sweeping score brings Shakespeare’s tragic romance vividly to life in a stunning orchestral showcase.
