Forever Plaid

Written and Originally Directed and Choreographed by Stuart Ross
Musical Continuity Supervision and Arrangements by James Raitt

May 9 - May 25, 2025

Forever Plaid is one of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory. This deliciously fun revue is chock-full of classic barbershop quartet harmonies and pitch-perfect melodies!

Once upon a time, there were four guys (Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie) who discovered that they shared a love for music and then got together to become their idols – The Four Freshman, The Hi-Lo's and The Crew Cuts. Rehearsing in the basement of Smudge's family's plumbing supply company, they became "Forever Plaid". On the way to their first big gig, the "Plaids" are broadsided by a school bus and killed instantly. It is at the moment when their careers and lives end that the story of Forever Plaid begins....

Singing in close harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with overzealous precision, the "Plaids" are a guaranteed smash, with a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they're not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the 1950s.

Forever Plaid is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

Midwest Big Band: A Summer Soundscape

featuring
Jim Bulanda

Saturday, June 7, 2025 • 7:00pm

Big band music of the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s has gifted American culture with arguably the greatest love songs on the charts. Listening to the crooning of “Rat Pack” members Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Bing Crosby, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop on the radio was enough to melt any icy heart until it skipped a beat to the thrill of a saxophone. Band leaders like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Glenn Miller drew crowds and bridged racial divides through the love language of swing.

For the past three years, this professional quality, historical, 18-piece big band has been thrilling audiences across Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland with their world-class talent. Instrumentalists include the best semi-professionals in the Region, some of whom have toured professionally with Ray Charles, played freelance in Los Angeles, or taught music at the high school and college levels. Local vocalist Jim Bulanda, who is famous for his “Tribute to Frank Sinatra Show,” has joined the band to style the jazz standards.

The Duke Street Kings featuring Michael McDermott

playing the songs of Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty

Saturday, June 21, 2025 • 7:30pm

Michael McDermott’s brand of rock ‘n’ roll brims with a well-honed style and raw authenticity that can only come from a lifetime on the road and a deep pedigree in the studio. Effortlessly blending folk sensibility, pop hooks, and honest rock, his music resonates with the outcast and the congregation alike—an exploration of life’s dark corners filtered through the heart of a kid who grew up on Chicago’s Irish South Side.

If you’re a fan of Springsteen, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, or John Steinbeck, McDermott’s inspirational rock is in your wheelhouse—waiting late at night with a guitar, spare smokes, and stories of the American heart.

This special performance is a rare opportunity to see an artist of McDermott’s caliber, a songwriter standing among the greats, pay homage to two of his biggest influences—Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty. Don’t miss this electrifying tribute from one of rock’s most passionate storytellers.

Zurawski v Texas

Film Screening & Panel Discussion

Tuesday, June 24, 2025 • 7:00pm

Please note: This event is not presented by Memorial Opera House

Join us for a powerful screening of Zurawski v. Texas, a documentary directed by Maisie Crow and Abbie Perrault, that follows a group of women denied critical healthcare under Texas’ restrictive abortion laws. These women, united by shared trauma and courage, take their fight to the courts with the help of a relentless attorney, challenging a system that left them without options.

As the case unfolds, the film lays bare the human cost of legislative decisions—highlighting deeply personal stories that underscore the urgent need for reproductive rights and access to care. Zurawski v. Texas is both a legal battle and a call to conscience.

Following the screening, there will be a Q & A session with experts including Chris Daley, executive director of ACLU-IN.  This will offer our audience time for  reflection, dialogue, and deeper understanding of the issues explored in the film.

Due to the sensitive nature of the subject matter, viewer discretion is advised.
