tiff - Lucky

Category: Film

Venue: Recital Theatre

Date: Thursday, February 22

Tickets: $13

Rating: 14A some language

Having outdrank, outsmoked and outlived all of his contemporaries in his off-the-map desert town, fiercely independent 90-year-old atheist Lucky (the late Harry Dean Stanton in his final role) finds himself unexpectedly thrust into a late-in-life journey of self-exploration. The directorial debut of acclaimed character actor John Carroll Lynch (Shutter Island, Zodiac), Lucky is a cinematic love letter to its legendary leading man Stanton, as well as a deeply felt meditation on mortality, loneliness, spirituality, and human connection.

Keyano Theatre Company's Production of:

The Drowsy Chaperone

By: Bob Martin and Don McKellar

Music and Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison

Preview: February 15, 8:00pm

Opening: February 16, 2018

Show dates: February 17, 22, 23, 24, 8:00pm

Venue: Keyano Theatre

Rating: Mature

"What more do you need for an evening's entertainment?"

The Drowsy Chaperone is the story of a fussy and reclusive, middle-aged, modern-day musical theatre addict known simply as Man in Chair.  To chase the blues away, he likes to listen to familiar old musicals.  On this occasion, he drops the needle on his favorite LP, the cast recording of the 1928 musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone. From the crackle of his hi-fi, the musical magically bursts to life on-stage all around him. It tells the tale of a pampered Broadway starlet Janet, who wants to give up show business and marry her debonair suitor.  And then there is the chaperone (who needs to chaperone the couple) isn't naturally drowsy, but she is inclined to drink (despite the existence of prohibition) and it seems that alcohol makes her terribly, terribly drowsy. Needless to say, she is rather sleepy throughout the entire show. Since it is her job to keep an eye on Janet, her drowsy nature allows mischief to occur undetected.

The Drowsy Chaperone

is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

Rainbow Dance Theatre - Selfie

Category: Modern Dance

Date: Thursday, March 8

Time: 7:00pm

Tickets: Adults $35 Students/Seniors $25

Venue: Keyano Theatre

Rating: All ages

Rainbow Dance Theatre's newest production “SELFIE” presents an evening of non-stop surprises and stunning beauty when dance and technology collide onstage. The work features the popular social media phenomenon of "the selfie" as an integral part of the production both when audience members text their own selfies to the stage and as a point of departure for an exploration of the mystery of “self”.
Through high-powered dancing and the wizardry of motion tracking technology, audiences will be swept into an otherworldly artistic wonderland. The audience becomes a part of the show when they text their own selfie to the stage and see it appear during the performance. Then audience members journey with RDT through an exotic landscape – a sometimes gentle, sometimes explosive terrain – as “SELVIE” delves into the mystery of the “self”. Are we our outer perceived persona, our inner emotions, or our deep unconscious self? Or are we the selfie that we “share” with the world?

Shantero Productions Presents:

Derek Edwards - Alls I'm Saying

Category: Comedy

Date: Sunday, May 27

Time: 7:30pm

Tickets: $49

Venue: Keyano Theatre

Rating: All Ages, may be some mature language

Alls I’m Saying is brazenly tentative! Like a sniper with the hiccups, Derek Edwards takes aim at life's galling moments, exhales slowly and jerks back the trigger. A riotous evening of homegrown comedy -- like taking a ride in an open golf cart with a good friend and a 6 pack.

From Vegas to St. John’s, this Just For Laughs veteran is universally considered to be among the comic elite. Certainly his peers think so, as evidenced by the fact that he’s a four-time nominee, and winner of Best Standup Comic - Canadian Comedy Awards, as well as a multiple Gemini nominee for Best Performance in a Comedy. As Rick Mercer says, “Everyone knows Derek is the funniest man in Canada.”

Clearly the critics agree: “5 STARS - the funniest man on earth” - Winnipeg Free Press; “4 STARS - the crowd howled” - Victoria Times Colonist; “still the funniest man in Canada” - Toronto Sun; “Edwards reigns as the King of Canadian comedy” - Charlottetown Guardian; “Derek Edwards is hysterical” - Calgary Sun; “Edwards takes stand-up to next stage” - Georgia Straight; “the epitome of timing & storytelling” - Halifax Chronicle Herald; “the comedian’s comedian” - London Free Press.

Alls I’m Saying - Derek Edwards’ new 90-minute stand-up comedy show, ...a richly textured and enthralling 'cut above,’ delivered with pace and authority by the consummate Canadian Comedian.
