Shock and Awe

Category: Film

Date: Thursday, November 15

Time: 7:00pm

Tickets: $13

Venue: Keyano Recital Theatre

Rating: 14A    90minutes

Taking source material from one of the darkest times in American history, director Rob Reiner (A Few Good Men; The Princess Bride) invigorates viewers with a political dive into the aftermath of 9/11 and the subsequent invasion of Iraq. Shock and Awe is a rousing venture based on the all-too-real events of a time that seems like only yesterday. The tension builds around two reporters, Jonathan Landay (James Marsden, The Butler; TV’s Westworld) and Warren Stroebel (Woody Harrelson, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; The Glass Castle), who investigate the abuse of power and the tangled web of secrets being kept at a national level. The journalists, accompanied by their boss, John Walcott (Rob Reiner), and war correspondent Joe Galloway (Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln; The Homesman), begin to peel away at George W. Bush’s plan to invade Iraq following the horrific terrorist attacks in 2001. While some view the president’s orders as the only solution to the crisis, Landay and Stroebel know that there is more beneath the surface. As they uncover incriminating facts about the impending war, the journalists’ problem is no longer finding the truth; it’s getting people to believe it. Shock and Awe gives fine performances from distinguished Hollywood stars and examines a time in American history full of lies and deceit. The film is a tense investigation of political and social clashes, fittingly told in the current time of an equally divided and tense country.
