Ritmo Vivo celebrates the living rhythms, cultural influences, and movement traditions that connect communities across the Americas and around the world.
Flamenco artist Kerensa DeMars explores the connections between Flamenco and its Caribbean influences, while emerging artist Sabrina Lina Conchi presents a world premiere rooted in the style of Cumbia Wepa. Danceworks Artistic Director Christal Wagner showcases a Latin American-inspired musical theatre medley highlighting the rhythms and Latin influences that have shaped beloved musicals, from West Side Story to In the Heights. Simon Eichinger and dance partner Lynn Celek premiere the entangled partnering style known as Brazilian Zouk currently rising in national popularity and Cyenthia Vijayakumar joins the program with a new film premiere featuring Classical Indian Kathak Dance. Returning to the stage is fan favorite MkeMe Crew with the dynamic energy of K-pop. Also featured is the Danceworks Performance Workshop Series, presenting original choreography by David Roman (Jazz), Rich Ashworth (Hip Hop), Alex Vanissaveth (K-pop), and Courtney Dorzok (Jazz).
