A DEAD MAN'S APARTMENT

By Edward Allan Baker

Directed by Jason Utesch

Assisted by Emma Johnson

Join us for another Studio Diner Theatre presentation!

Last year's production of Rosemary with Ginger introduced audiences to this author, a master of the one act play genre. The addition of a home cooked "diner dinner" created a new experience for audiences in our intimate studio theatre. This year, we meet Lonnie, a married but lonely truck driver, and Nickie, his mistress, a married but lonely hardware store clerk, meet twice a week in an apartment to talk and kiss. They have chosen a day to tell their spouses they are leaving them, but when the day comes, there is a message on Lonnie’s answering machine: “You’re a dead man.” Lonnie wants to put off telling their spouses until he finds out who is after him,

Next to Normal

Book & Lyrics by Brian Yorkey

Lyrics by Tom Kitt

Director Mike Glorioso

Assisted by Ashleigh Happer

Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Next to Normal was also chosen as "one of the year's ten best shows" by critics around the country, including The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times.

Dad's an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal. Traumatized by the death of her infant son from an undiagnosed intestinal obstruction, Diana has lived with bipolar depressive disorder and delusional episodes for the past seventeen years.  The illness has affected everyone in her life and has nearly torn her family apart on several occasions. Next to Normal takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family's story with love, sympathy and heart.

LEVEL 1:

Identity Play; or, Who You Are When You Think You Are

by Jon Jory & Jason Pizzarello

A series of comedic and dramatic vignettes exploring who we are and who we want to be. With endless choices and expectations, do our actions define us or do our intentions? What about our words? What about the way we dress, the friends we keep, or how we act online? Is who we think we are different than how other people see us? In such a complex, face-paced world, it's vital to slow-down, reflect...and laugh.

Running time est. - 35 min.

Produced by special arrangement with Stage Partners. (www.yourstagepartners.com)

LEVEL 2:

Know Your Role

by Brandi Owensby

No sooner do we leave the womb than we're bombarded by society's expectations about gender. If you're a boy, you're like this. If you're a girl, you're like that. Through scenes and monologues that range from hilarious to heartbreaking, this one-act explores how these expectations affect teens' daily lives. Whether it's how they dress, the rules of dating, body image, parental pressures or a host of other ways, the teens of this flexible ensemble reveal how gender expectations affect them and how they "role."

Winner, Indiana Thespians One-Act Competition 2019 (Noblesville High School).

Running time est, - 40 min.

Produced by arrangement with YouthPLAYS

There will be a 15 minute intermission after Level 2

LEVEL 3:

Power Play

by Lindsay Price

A gunshot is heard. Which of the five characters did it and why?
Was it the Goth girl? The football star? The super-intelligent geek?
High school violence is a hot media topic, but it is too often simplistically portrayed by putting teens into tidy categories and pointing at the outsider.
Power Play explores the realities and the stereotypes of high school violence - not just the brutal shock of the school shooting, but also verbal harassment and bullying. Violence is about power. So is high school.

Running time est. - 55 min.

Produced by arrangement with Theatrefolk Publishers
