In the Beginning by the Sarasota Jewish Theatre

An aged Eve is in the Garden of Eden Park across the Tigris/Euphrates from the senior living residence which is home these days. She is about to be interviewed for a documentary film about her life with Adam. Eve is excited to tell her side of the story for the first time, because in the past “he got all the credit.”

When Lilith, a very unwelcome guest, shows up, it becomes clear that Eve has been holding a lifetime of secrets and resentments. The revelations come fast and furious, especially when Lilith brings up that infamous snake.

The Cynthia Sayer Hot Jazz Quartet is led by multi-award winning instrumentalist-vocalist-bandleader Cynthia Sayer, renowned for bringing the swinging sound of jazz banjo to concert and festival audiences worldwide. Sayer’s virtuoso performances offer fresh perspectives of the jazz banjo in the hands of a master, drawing repertoire from hot jazz, the American Songbook, tango, classical, and more. An American Banjo Hall of Famer and recent winner of the prestigious Steve Martin Banjo Prize, Cynthia Sayer is a founding member of Woody Allen’s New Orleans Jazz Band and has played with renowned artists including Les Paul, Dick Hyman, Wynton Marsalis, Marian McPartland, and many others.

Joining Cynthia as a Special Guest is top NYC trumpeter Jon Erik Kellso. The go-to player for many jazz greats, Jon is on over 100 albums and many movie and TV soundtracks, including "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and the Grammy-winning “Boardwalk Empire.”

Sarasota Opera Studio Artists in Concert

Studio artists from the Sarasota Opera will perform opera highlights, including arias and ensembles, from some of the most well-known and well-loved classic operas.

Entering its 67th season this year, and celebrating 100 years of the Sarasota Opera House, Sarasota Opera will present four classic productions this season, including the Puccini's La bohème, Lehár's The Merry Widow, Verdi's Il trovatore, and Floyd's Susannah. This performance will showcase the world-class talent this historical venue brings to the community.

The Sarasota Opera Apprentice and Studio Artist Program is one of the leading training programs in the United States for aspiring singers. Chosen from national auditions, the participants in the Apprentice and Studio Artists Program form the chorus for the main stage opera productions, perform community outreach, understudy principal roles as well as perform secondary roles. Many former Sarasota Opera Apprentice and Studio Artists have gone on to perform leading roles with the company as well as with major opera houses around the world.

Sarasota Opera, known as "Verdi's American Home," enters its 67th consecutive season of bringing world class opera to the gulf coast. Consistently garnering international attention, Sarasota Opera continues to distinguish itself as one of the top opera companies in the United States by finding innovation through tradition.
