The words from American author Frank O’Hara’s “The Quarrel Sonata” form the libretto for this mini-opera. A couple meet one another on a subway train in some undefined city and we follow them through the dizzying heights and desperate lows of their relationship. It is a story we might recognize.

Sam and Dinah could be called the quintessential suburban husband and wife with one child. Teetering on the complexities of marriage and relationships, they struggle to understand each other, the world around them, and their own strivings toward the American dream.

CCO Presents: La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini

One of the most-loved operas by Puccini, La Bohème tells the story of a group of young artists living in Paris. When the poet Rodolfo meets the delicate seamstress Mimì, they fall deeply in love. Amid the joy, heartbreak, and struggles of bohemian life, their romance is tested by poverty, passion, and the harsh realities of the world around them.
