The Schonberg Fellows/Chicagoland is a mentored residency initiative that connects The Yard to the professional dance community of Chicago. The Yard is proud to present The Era and Joanna Furnans.

The Era is a creative collective founded in 2014 by footwork dancers on the South Side of Chicago. The Era features footworkers: Litebulb, P-top, Chief Manny, Stelo and includes documentarian and founding advisor, Wills, co-manager Dee-Dee and consultant / advisor Drew. In 2016, they were recognized as one of Chicago's "cultural organizers of the year" by FADER Magazine for bringing footwork dancing to the stage in Englewood on the South Side. They were also selected as one of the "choreographers of the year" in 2016 by Chicago publication New City. They have performed across Chicago and the US and in other countries, including Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, and the UK.

Joanna Furnans is an independent dance artist based in Chicago. Her work has been supported by the Chicago Dancemaker’s Forum, High Concept Labs, the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), the Chicago Moving Company, Links Hall, and the Walker Art Center. She has toured and performed in the works of numerous independent dance makers including Karen Sherman, Chris Schlichting, Morgan Thorson, and Ginger Krebs. Furnans is a freelance dance writer for See Chicago Dance and co-founder of the Performance Response Journal.
