Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute, Ravinia Festival’s summer program for young professional classical, jazz, and vocal musicians, opened in 1988 and is one of the world’s most sought-after summer study programs. RSMI has hosted outstanding young musicians from over 65 countries to study and perform with an internationally renowned faculty of teaching artists. The musicians performing at Metropolis are from the prestigious Program for Piano and Strings.

The best young musicians from around the world compete for 30 coveted fellowships each year to Ravinia’s highly immersive Program for Piano and Strings to work individually and in ensembles with the superb faculty, led by program director and world-renowned violinist, Miriam Fried.
