This concert features terrific and engaging music by composers whose delightful voices need more opportunity to be enjoyed.

Featured composers will be African American composers William Grant Still and Florence Price, along with music from Haiti.

When the Czech composer, Antonin Dvorak came to the US, he urged American composers to draw on our indigenous music, as he learned it from his students at the American Conservatory of Music in New York City.

All of the works on the program draw immediately and authentically from the cultural roots of the composers. “I love the established musical canon and we play plenty of the ‘great works,’ but there is so much more to human expression and great music than the top 50. There are more voices to hear, more cultures to appreciate, more feelings to feel,” says Katsarelis.
