Sarasota Earlye Musicke Consort

Thursday, April 16 at 7:30pm

The Sarasota Earlye Musicke Consort, founded in 1993, performs music from the 1300s to the current day. Members of the Consort have years of experience playing various kinds and sizes of recorders. The recorder is a woodwind instrument that was first documented in the Middle Ages. Composers who have written for the recorder include Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi, Telemann, Johann Sebastian Bach, Benjamin Britten, Leonard Bernstein, and Arvo Pärt.

The Consort also includes a viola da gamba, an early version of the modern cello.

The Consort's varied programs include descriptions of the instruments and commentary about the music played. The Consort will be wearing Renaissance costumes to enhance the presentation.
