Our Country's Good

May 9-12

Brunner Main Stage Theatre

Directed by Jeff Coussens

Set against the backdrop of Australia's penal colony in the late 18th century, this thought-provoking drama is a poignant examination of the redemptive power of theatre. As the struggling colony grapples with issues of justice and rehabilitation, a group of convicts and British officers embark on an audacious project: to stage a play that will not only entertain but also enlighten and lift their spirits. Amid the harsh realities of their existence, the production becomes a beacon of hope, revealing the shared humanity that transcends societal divisions.

Through the exploration of the relationships between captives and captors, Our Country's Good masterfully navigates themes of oppression, self-discovery, and the unifying force of art, underscoring the enduring truth that even in the harshest of circumstances, the spark of creativity can illuminate the path to redemption.

Take Your Seat

Inspired by New York City’s Off-Broadway venue New World Stages, the Brunner Theatre Center, which opened in fall 2016, houses three outstanding performance spaces, scene shop, costume shop, dressing rooms, a conference room/theatre library, and the theatre department administrative/faculty offices.

Arts enthusiasts, members of the community, and alumni are invited to “take your seat.”  Donors can commemorate themselves, a friend or family member, organizations, a special occasion, or business with a name plate that will be placed on a seat in the Brunner Theatre Main Stage Theatre. The nameplates will accommodate up to 50 characters.  Center section seats are $250 and side seats are $150.

Supporting the Brunner Theatre through the seat naming campaign creates a lasting legacy for the donor in one of the most public spots on campus.

Specific seats are available on a first come, first serve basis. Seat naming is not a reservation of the seat itself for future events. Tickets to Brunner Theatre events are purchased separately.  You will see a proof of your plaque before it is created.

All donations are tax deductible and support the work of the Augustana College Department of Theatre Arts.
