This 1970 drama, starring Jack Nicholson and Karen Black, creates a haunting portrait of alienation that features one of Nicholson's greatest performances and is his first leading role.

As an angry, insubordinate smart mouth who works as an oil-rigger, Nicholson finds himself trapped in a toxic relationship with a diner waitress and would-be country singer. When he returns to the family home to see his dying father, we are surprised to learn he’s turned his back on a promising career as a classical pianist. Directed by Bob Rafelson and Dennis Hopper, “Five Easy Pieces” earned four Oscar nominations, for Best Picture, Actor, Supporting Actress and Original Screenplay.

Rated R for adult situations and language.
Run time is 1 hour and 38 minutes.
